Cambodia Casinos

[ English ]

There is a captivating story to the Cambodia casinos that lie just across the border from nearby Thailand, in which gambling den gaming is not permitted. Eight gambling dens are established in a generally small space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in a prime spot, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal income acquired from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of controls constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; however, funding sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 17:00, and though visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to cross, there are methods around this, as is true of most borders.

The original Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat gambling hall, highlights one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and sixty table games. The Naga river boat never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. A total of 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machine games and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational resort and hotel complex that highlights a number of conveniences aside from the gambling den, which provides 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 gaming tables.
