Cambodia Gambling Dens

There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where gambling den wagering is against the law. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a relatively tiny location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect destination, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of controls constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; however, investment sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 1700, and though visas are apparently needed to cross, there are methods around this, as is real of most borders.

The original Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat gambling den, contains one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and sixty tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty slots and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred one armed bandits and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 table games, including eighty seven punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the normal table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight casinos in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive vacation and hotel complex that features numerous comforts in addition to the gambling hall, which contains 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 gaming tables.
